Gas prices in Canada and USA

Because we use the metric system in Canada , many Canadians are unaware of the high prices we pay for fuel when compared to our southern neighbours. Here are some quick calculations.
Currently in Winnipeg regular gas sells at 117.9 cents/litre. For this calculation lets round it off to 118 .
1 gallon of Canadian gas contains 4.55 litres
Therefore the cost of 1 gallon of gas in Canada is 4.55 X 118 = 5.3690 or $5.36
The cost of gas in the USA is around $3.00/gallon.
Even if we make corrections for the difference in the size of the American gallon and that the Canadian dollar is currently valued at 89 cents US there is still more than a dollar difference in the cost of fuel between our 2 countries.
This would not be so painful to accept if the Americans paid the same prices that we do for for the gas that they import from us.
We should not be surprised that the number of American visitors to Canada is on the decline.
